a friend is just going through the process of filling out her census questionnaire, she was troubled by the question about "race"..
well, strictly speaking one should answer the question with "homo sapiens".
the sad thing is that in a low context society, it becomes important to classify everyone and everything, because that gives a sense of security, of having everything under control.
but classification is a two-edged sword, it is the basis for all discrimination: it is the nature of the duality between similarity/difference and membership which causes so much pain and suffering.
i look forward to the day when a question about "race" becomes superfluous.
